Google's ChatGPT Rival BARD

ChatGPT Rival BARD

Google has officially entered the arena of AI chatbots with the launch of its experimental conversational AI service called Bard. This new AI chatbot is designed to rival ChatGPT, which became a sensation in the world of AI chatbots late last year. Although the two platforms are quite different, ChatGPT posed a threat to Google, and its launch created unease within the company.

Bard is powered by the Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA) that was introduced by Google two years ago at its annual I/O event. The company's CEO, Sundar Pichai, stated in a blog post that the AI model combines the vast knowledge of the world with the power, intelligence, and creativity of its large language models. Bard is initially being made available to trusted testers ahead of a wider public launch in the coming weeks.

Pichai also spoke about the potential for Bard to be an outlet for creativity and a launchpad for curiosity. The AI model uses information from the web to provide fresh and high-quality responses to complex questions. Unlike ChatGPT, which was trained on data available before 2021, Bard will provide answers to questions using the latest information available. The CEO noted that people are increasingly turning to Google for deeper insights and understanding, rather than simple questions like "how many keys does a piano have?"

While Pichai did not go into detail about the features and capabilities of Bard, he did mention a few use cases where the AI chatbot could be useful. For example, it could help people explain new discoveries from NASA's James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old, or learn about the best football strikers and get drills to build their skills.

Google is releasing Bard initially with its lightweight model version of LaMDA, which requires significantly less computing power and will allow for more feedback from users as it can be scaled to a larger number of users.

In conclusion, Google's entry into the AI chatbot market with Bard is a notable development and will be interesting to see how it performs against established players like ChatGPT. The combination of the breadth of the world's knowledge with the intelligence and creativity of large language models could make Bard a powerful tool for people seeking answers and insights on a wide range of topics.
